Social Media Agent is a desktop app for planning, drafting and scheduling Instagram Reels. It runs on your computer and has no servers or accounts of its own. This policy explains what data it handles and where that data goes.
The short version
- Your drafts, chats, contents and schedule are stored only on your computer.
- What you type in a drafting chat goes to OpenAI through the Codex CLI, under your own ChatGPT account.
- We don't collect analytics, telemetry or crash reports.
- The app checks GitHub for updates, and GitHub sees those requests.
Data stored on your computer
Everything you create in the app (draft chats, draft documents, contents and your posting schedule) is saved in a local database in your user profile. On Windows that is%APPDATA%\Social Media Agent\data. We never receive a copy. You can export or restore it from Settings, and delete it by removing that folder.
Error and crash logs are also kept locally, in%APPDATA%\Social Media Agent\logs. They are never uploaded. If you report a problem, you choose whether to share them.
AI drafting through Codex and OpenAI
Drafting uses the Codex CLI (made by OpenAI), which the app runs on your computer and signs in with your ChatGPT account. When you send a message in a draft, or convert a draft into content, that text and the conversation so far are sent to OpenAI to generate a reply. OpenAI handles that data under its own terms and privacy policy, and it counts toward your ChatGPT plan's usage limits. We do not see or store it anywhere except on your computer.
Signing in happens in your web browser on OpenAI's site. The app never sees your password. Codex stores its sign-in and its own conversation history in your user folder (~/.codex). Deleting a draft in the app also deletes its Codex conversation.
Updates
The installed app checks for new versions on GitHub, where releases are published, a few times a day and downloads updates from there. Like any website, GitHub receives your IP address and basic request information when this happens. See GitHub's privacy statement for how it handles that.
This website
This site is a static page. It sets no cookies and runs no analytics or tracking scripts. The company hosting it may keep standard server logs, such as IP address and browser type, to operate and secure the site.
Children
The app requires a ChatGPT account, so it is subject to OpenAI's minimum age requirements. It is not directed at children.
Changes
If how the app handles data changes, we will update this page and its date before the change ships.
