What you need
A Windows 10 or 11 PC and a ChatGPT plan that includes Codex. Codex comes built into the app — sign in with ChatGPT on first launch and you're ready. Social Media Agent runs on your machine and drives Codex the same way the terminal does.
Frequently asked
Do I need my own OpenAI API key?+
No. Social Media Agent talks to the Codex CLI's app-server, which uses your existing ChatGPT plan login — the same one you use for Codex. There's no API key to manage and nothing is billed per token.
Where does my data live?+
Locally, in a SQLite file on your own machine. Drafts, content and your schedule never leave your computer except for the prompts Codex needs to draft a reply.
Does it post to Instagram for me?+
Not yet. The calendar is for planning — it tells you what's due and when. Auto-posting is on the roadmap but out of scope for now.
What do I need installed?+
Just the app. It includes the Codex CLI, so all you do on first launch is sign in with a ChatGPT plan that includes Codex. If you already have the Codex CLI installed, the app uses that one instead.
Why does Windows warn me when I run the installer?+
Early builds aren't code-signed yet, so Windows SmartScreen may say it "protected your PC". Choose More info → Run anyway. The installer only comes from this site's download link on GitHub.
How do updates work?+
The app checks for new versions in the background, downloads them, and asks you to restart. If you choose Later, the update installs the next time you quit.
